Unexpecting by Jen Bailey was a very light hearted, funny, and inspiring YA novel. Jumping into it based on the cover I saw in NetGalley, I didn't know anything about the synopsis until I started reading. *spoilers below*

This book is described as "Juno meets Heartstopper", and I agree with that statement, when Benjamin Morrison is 16 years old (almost 17..) he tells his family he is gay. A few weeks later, he is sitting them down again to tell them he got his best friend Maxie pregnant. Everyone in his life is confused, "but... aren't you gay?" is all anyone can ask. The roller coaster Ben goes through to figure out his future with such big changes happening, kept me turning the page.

The characters are all very easy to like, even the parents of Maxie, the pregnant teenager, even though they can be jerks to Ben at times. The ending was a bit predictable once you get to about halfway through the book, but anyone who loves a happy ending wouldn't mind. I will buy this book for my daughter when it is released, it has a lot of great teenager themes, I think the life lessons in this book will be great for her. I would recommend this book to anyone who has teenagers, or teens themselves. Looking forward to more from Jen Bailey in the future!
