The Hate U Give is one of those books that you finish reading a different person. It changes the way you think and feel for a while. This book is so powerful, everyone should read it.

Starr Carter grew up in two worlds, the poor neighborhood where she lives and the prep school world she attends school in. When she witnesses the shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil, it forces her to become an activist for change. After some time. time of being scared to speak up, she finally does risking her life, her reputation and her community, she rallies to get justice for her friend and the community she grew up in.
This novel is extremely important, especially in a time where these things are happening in real life. As someone who is not of the community, it really opened my eyes and I see more why things like Black Lives Matter are important, I want to do as much as I can to help. The fact that some school's are banning this novel is repulsing, and I hope teenagers read it on their own anyways. I will be gifting my copy to my 16 year old daughter.
This novel's movie adaptation was done pretty well, I actually watched the movie before I read the book, which I don't do very often. But I wanted to see it while it was in theatre's so it would get the revenue it deserved.
